Fusion.

 

The warmth of family, tradition, faith and pleasure.

These are the four elements that I took as the starting point for this report of a family between two worlds. An Algerian family that has formed a close-knit women's plan in the heart of Ghent since the father's death. Mother, adult daughter and three small children. Fighting for each other and enjoying each other. I was allowed to look behind the walls and veils, joined the table and for a while I could call myself the sixth member of this special family. A glimpse into a living room where fresh mint tea and Algerian cakes stand next to the box with Belgian Easter eggs. The enchantment of amalgamation of ages, of cultures, of women among each other.

With this report I want to show the power of an emigrated family through the ingredients of warmth, tradition, faith and pleasure. As personal portraits of life in a new country.

Warmth. Intimate connection that is celebrated daily. Seating together, hospitality is paramount. Cooking, sharing, eating and being together from our heart.

 

Tradition. The wealth of Algerian culture and nomadism. Traditional moments in a modern world.

 

Faith. The belief in a God and in your neighbour. Trust in others and in warm family ties. In an incredible connection, as a source of power.

 

Pleasure. Adventure every day. Laughing at the table, in the bedroom, during parties ... You can achieve a lot with pleasure. It gives things an important place in your life.
